Who can inspect a Victorian pool barrier
The BPC says owners can arrange an inspection with a registered pool inspector, building inspector, building surveyor or municipal building surveyor. For a private booking, check for a Building Surveyor BS-U/BS-L, Building Inspector IN-U/IN-L, or Pool Safety Inspector (IN-PS).
Search the BPC register using the person's name or registration number on the day you book. A business name by itself is not enough.
What to ask before booking
- Is your registration current for this work? Check the answer against the BPC record.
- What does the quoted price include? Ask about the first visit, reinspection, travel, GST and the certificate.
- Can you work to the date on my council letter? Availability matters more than a low quote when the deadline is close.
- What information do you need? A practitioner may need the council letter because it contains the applicable standard and installation details.
- What happens if the barrier fails? Ask how written directions, reinspection and any extra charge are handled.
There is no set inspection fee. The BPC recommends getting quotes from at least two practitioners. Pool Letter Help currently offers one registered local business as a pilot option; you remain free to compare and book elsewhere.
The current pilot option
Pool Letter Help currently shows Country VIC Pool Inspections as one registered pilot option. The provider website listed an A$250 + GST initial inspection and A$50 + GST reinspection when checked on 3 August 2026. Confirm the current total, inclusions and availability in writing.
The form does not upload your council letter. If the request fits Ballarat and is due within 60 days, the selected inspector may contact you and ask you to send the letter directly.
How the current pilot is funded
The first 10 qualified new-owner requests are a free pilot. Pool Letter Help does not currently charge the owner or the participating business a referral fee, so the provider's published A$250 + GST inspection fee is unchanged.
No commercial terms have been agreed for requests after the free pilot. Any later charge and who pays it must be agreed with the participating business and disclosed to the owner before it applies. One request goes to one selected registered business; it is not auctioned or sent to a list of contractors.
Keep the council fee separate
The City's A$23.20 amount is for lodging a compliance certificate after it has been issued. It does not pay for the private inspection and it is not included automatically unless the inspector's written quote says so.
